Southern Constellations Star Talk

The night skies over Kingscote are often very clear and constellations such as the Southern Cross in the south and Orion or Scorpio in the north can be seen.

Weather permitting, your guide will give a laser guided talk on the southern night sky, first utilising the star chart inside the Marine Centre and then showing guests first hand the night sky.

Look for the Clouds of Magellan, Centaurus the "Horse Man" and learn how to find the south celestial pole.

From December until February ORION is high in the our northern sky while the Southern Cross is low on the southern horizon.

On the dark nights, from November to March, when there is no moon or clouds the CLOUDS OF MAGELLAN are easily seen. The CLOUDS OF MAGELLAN are the closest galaxies to earth.
